According to multiple reports, Manhattan College has parted ways with Head Basketball Coach Steve Masiello, just 13 days before the season is scheduled to start.

2022–23 was a contract year for Masiello, and with the Jaspers picked 2nd in the MAAC Preseason Poll, it seemed as if he was giving himself a chance to prove worthy of an extension.

Masiello was about to enter year 12 as the head man for the Jaspers, winning the MAAC Tournament in 2014 and 2015, but finishing with an overall record of 162–177.

The interim coach for Manhattan is RaShawn Stores, the first game of the season is on November 7th at VCU.

Manhattan is one of the oldest teams in the country, completely made up of players brought to The Bronx by Masiello, who is a player’s coach. The Jaspers had 8 players come back for a COVID year this season, but with the coach gone, we’ll see what happens.

According to Adam Zagoria, Masiello had a shaky relationship with the AD at Manhattan, Marianne Reilly. Masiello was placed on leave in 2014 due to a degree that he claimed to have, but never actually got, however, this is a different administration.

MAAC Preseason Player of the Year Jose Perez weighed in.
